CRISPR Cat

Indoor Biotechnologies is applying CRISPR gene editing to delete Fel d 1 from cat cells, as an approach to creating a hypoallergenic cat. Fel d 1 is the cat allergen of choice because it accounts for 60-90% of anti-cat IgE. Preliminary data based on sequencing Fel d 1 from 50 domestic cats has identified at least 16 novel Fel d 1 sequence mutations, resulting in polymorphisms with 92-99% identity. Guide RNA’s designed from the sequences were effective in targeting CRISPR-Cas9 for deletion of Fel d 1 from cat cell lines.
